“It Ends With Us”-A Colleen Hoover Classic
I have always been a fan of murder mystery classics, crime novels, and detective stories. I still am if you are asking! But I realized it was high time I needed a change, a big one. I dived into my search for genres I don’t usually prefer and as I spun the wheel, it stopped at “Romance”. I began my search. While browsing I found Colleen Hoover. I haven’t read her before. The titles
of the books caught my attention and I bought eight of them. Weird, huh! I rarely experiment with authors. But before you judge me as crazy, I googled her genre prior to buying the books and it was’ young adult fiction’. To be honest, that intrigued me, because I never read books of this genre before.
I started with Slammed because I did my research and knew it was her first published novel. However, this review is on It Ends With Us. For a really long time, I haven’t read a book with such a powerful plot. This book is also close to Hoover which she mentions in her note at the end of the book.

So what makes it different? The concept in itself and the way she swayed her words until the very last word in the book. This 2016 novel starts with a simple story, a boy (Ryle) meets a girl (Lily), both of them dating their careers only. And how they eventually fall in love. The story revolves around another guy (Atlas) who was Lily’s teen love and only if you keep reading you will know in installments why they fell apart. Before you think I need to give out a spoiler alert; I really don’t, I know my limits (winks).

When I started reading this novel, I was convinced by reading the blurb that it was more like a triangular love story. But to my surprise, that wasn’t the main theme. Up until I read this book, I had an understanding that when you are being abused, there are no feelings, no love, and that makes it so easy to hurt someone close to you. But this book changed that in me. Being abused and being loved by the same person is like flipping a coin. Although the phenomenon was beautifully explained, Hoover revealed how getting out of an abusive relationship is important to saving lives, and how that saves souls.
Hoover explored all the concepts we have related to abuse, abusers and those who are abused, their thoughts, their pain, and their passion. That revelation sent shivers through my spine, I didn’t know someone who can exploit you can passionately love you too. That’s deep. Throughout my reading of the book, I kept wondering with whom will she eventually end up and how. Because someone is bound to tell someone ‘It ends with us’, otherwise it can’t be classified as DRAMATIC! Do you know what made me smile the most? The author didn’t disappoint me. The artistry with which Hoover justified the title of her book is impeccable. I recommend this book to everyone I can think of.
